Who should I tell when I've recovered

When you have recovered from your illness, you should notify us via my.tentoo, and of course also inform the client you are working for.

Tentoo will then proceed to inform the benefit authority, the UWV. If you don't utilize the my.tentoo option then you can also notify us that you are no longer sick by calling +31 (0) 20 420 20 70.

Who should I tell if I'm sick?

Whenever you are unable to work due to sickness, you must notify us on the first day you are unwell via my.tentoo. Of course, you also need to immediately inform the client you are working for.

Tentoo will then proceed to inform the benefit authority, the UWV. If you do not inform us on time, the UWV may apply a financial penalty. If you don't utilize the my.tentoo option then you can notify us that you are unwell by calling +31 (0) 20 420 20 70.

We will send you an email to confirm we have received notification that you are unwell. The UWV will also send you a letter of confirmation.

What is the Werkloosheidswet (WW)?

If there is no longer work or sufficient work available for you, you may apply for unemployment benefits (WW-uitkering). Your eligibility and the level of any benefits depend on a number of criteria:

  • You must have been in paid employment prior to becoming unemployed. This is the case when social security premiums have been deducted from your pay;
  • The length of time you have been employed is important;
  • Your availability for work;
  • The reason you became unemployed.

Cyclical work
Even if you meet all the necessary criteria, you may still only be eligible for partial benefits. This may be the case if you have cyclical work. If the client always has no available work in the same months of the year and the employee always applies for benefits in those months, the UWV may rule that this is a case of cyclical work. UWV's opinion is that the client is abusing the benefit system to avoid paying salary during quieter months. There are no specific rules on this.

What happens after 2 years' sick leave?

If, after 2 years' sick leave you are unable to work in either a part or full time capacity, you may be eligible to receive benefits, aWIA-uitkering (Wet Werk en Inkomen naar Arbeidsvermogen).

Maternity benefits

Pregnant employees are entitled to a minimum of 16 weeks maternity leave. During this period the UWV will pay maternity benefits. This is calculated on your average daily income over a period of 4 weeks, or 1 month, immediately prior to your maternity leave.
Note: There is a maximum amount you may receive, details can be found at www.uwv.nl.

You can choose when to take your maternity leave, starting from between 6 and 4 weeks prior to the due date of birth.

Note: Tentoo applies for the maternity benefit on your behalf. To enable us to do so, you must fill in the form 'Aanvraag WAZO-uitkering' and return it to Tentoo together with your proof of pregnancy statement (Zwangerschapsverklaring) no later than 5 weeks prior to the date you wish to start your maternity leave.

How can I apply for unemployment benefits

From the moment you know that you are likely to become unemployed, you can apply for unemployment benefits (WW-uitkering) from the UWV via www.werk.nl. Firstly, you are required to register with the WERKbedrijf (previously called CWI) via the website as someone who is looking for work (werkzoekende). To do so, you will need a DigiD identifaction.

Once you have spoken to the UWV, they will send an employer's declaration (werkgeversverklaring) toTentoo, so you don't need to ask us for one in advance.

How are sickness benefits calculated and paid

Sickness benefits are calculated at 70% of your daily rate of pay. It is paid from the third day you are sick. The benefits authority, UWV, usually calculates your daily rate of pay on the basis of the pay used for social security purposes, the sociale verzekeringsloon (SV-loon) that you earned in the month prior to becoming sick.
